Simon Jones won't make the Ashes

Disappointing, as I actually like the man. Simon Jones will almost certainly be ruled out of the Ashes series after he undergoes further knee surgery today. He will undergo arthroscopy on his left knee tomorrow to remove loose cartilage, and will likely to ruled out of playing cricket until mid-June.

Not fun. Jones took 42 first-class wickets in 9 games for Worcestershire last year. He was also an integral part of the 2005 Ashes win, picking up 18 wickets. Now, I know that Ashes win was just rubbish, but Jones is a pretty good pace bowler.

This will be a disappointment, no doubt.

The only thing that would make me feel better in a situation like this is if someone told me the Aussies were celebrating my injury.

They're not. Well, that's what they keep insisting.

Simon Jones is the biggest loss to English cricket this decade. I'm sure the Aussies would far rather face Harmison this summer than Jones.

You bet. The Aussie players are probably having a field day with this. Simon Jones would have actually been a viable threat, especially when we're looking a little worse for wear nowadays.

Can't say that about some of the other English players, unfortunately.
