Mike Hussey's contribution to the tournament

Nothing.

Right. Well then...

Bangalore to win the final just because.

Ok, now that you have predicted BRC, the last ounce of chance they had is gone. All people reading this from countries where betting is legal, put your last savings on DC. DC are going to win now. No doubt :-)

Q said...

No Amy, DC are :-)

Amy said...

Raj, I've never been that bad at predicting winners. Both teams in the final today could just as easily lose as win.

Esra, I fail to understand why he'd return for one match when he could be at home with most of the team training ahead of the Ashes as he said he wanted to.

Q, we'll see in due time. I wouldn't mind either way really.

Q said...

Niether would I to be honest.. but DC winning wud mean the team with the lowest odds winning the IPL - much like RR last year..

Rayden said...

I really wonder what prompted Hussey to make himself available so late in the tournament. As happy as I was when he did come down to support Chennai, I really want to know why he came down for just one match. Just does not make sense.

Q said...

Rayden, for him he came down for 2 matches - Semi and the final.. hard luck CSK didn't make it.. when Hussey pulled out of the IPL he did say that he will come down if CSK reach the semis..

Rayden said...

Hey Q - I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know.

Q said...

Rayden, I think Amy mentioned that in one of her posts talking about how Hussey kept his promise to Dhoni...

I think it was Amy.. may bad if it was someone else.

Stani Army said...

No apologies and don't panic. I definitely meant to post that twice.

Q said...

Stani - the IPL will be back.. sooner than you think :-)

Stani Army said...

Yes, probably Q...and you lot are going to fall for it. Just one look at Lalit's shoes with no socks and you will be hypnotised...in a trance. He's already got Amy; she told me she loves it when she sees men wearing shoes in hot weather without any socks (you said it Ames)

Please Q, I'm sure your name comes with an I in front of it....use it! Don't fall for this fast food McModi cricket. It will clog your arteries and give you heart disease. (Everybody visualise the McDonald's M used for Modi's name...all together now).

I'm only looking out for your health.

Nostradamus said that the IPL will get sued by the franchises who will renege on their contracts in which Lalit promised goodies that did not materialise. This will spell the end of Modi and his mob.

Nos (as known to me), is always right...even when he's wrong he's right and sometimes when he's not sure, he's still right.

And on a different subject all together....did I tell you guys that I hate the IPL? Anyone?

Q said...

To each his own Stani Army... u hate the IPL, u have ur reasons too.. Im no fan of Modi's or his evil commercialization ways, but the IPL I think is genious.. I believe there's a case to have the 20-20 WC along a similar format.. its intense, its entertaining, and its keeps u hooked on till the very end.

Atleast at the 20-20 WC u wont hear commentators going gaga over sponsored lines.

And besides just dishing out slam-bang cricket, the IPL has also launched a number of international careers..

It got Yusuf Pathan into the Indian ODI team, it fast tracked Shaun Marsh's elevation to Australian ranks and resulted in Watson's return as well.. and I might add a much improved Watson..

Jadeja and Ojha were 2 others that made it into int'l crkt cos of the IPL.

This year may see Pandey playing int'l cricket.

And if it wasnt for the IPL Dirk Nannes may have remained a star only in Australia.. now the world knows him.

So as a spectacle and a platform where the world's best stars can perform, I think its a great idea.

Stani Army said...

I agree Q, the idea is wonderful but if you think that's what is really happening then you're kidding yourself. Does Lalit Modi care about launching careers? Bollocks does he! The introduction of the tactical time out this year should tell you everything you need to know about this guy and what his intentions are.

Lovely idea, wrong guy at the helm.

Have to disagree on Pathan and Watson. I think they would have been in the ODI teams anyway and I think its too early to say that the IPL has launched any careers....in fact, it's destroyed more careers by deeming those who play in the ICL as ineligible to play for their countries.

The thing Modi has created is the kind of thing that does not last. It is very superficial, for a certain short period, and then it's gone. It reminds me of the recent financial crisis. Those involved in it will make a quick buck and then everything will come crashing down.

Q said...

Stani Army, I completely agree with the notion "lovely idea, wrong guy at the helm".. as I said, I'm no fan of Modi's commercialization.. and I'm aware of what he's trying to do, he got worse than last year.. but at the end of the day once can look beyond all that and enjoy the cricket..

No other platforms will give u the Kumbles, Haydens, Gilchrists, and Warnes in action...

No other platform will provide young cricketers and good domestic performers an international stage to showcase their talent.

As for Watson and Pathan. Watson would not have made it back to the Aussie side if it wasn't for his form in last year's IPL. If anything, it fast tracked it. much like Marsh.. I reckon he would have played for Australia anyway, but he played for them sooner cos of his IPL performance.

Pathan played a T20 for India, the final in fact, and then was forgotten. Only made it into the ODIs after his IPL performance last year.

The ICLers are back!

Stani Army said...

I think the prospect of playing in the IPL hastened the retirement of some of the Veterans you mentioned Q. Hence, I think the cause and effect is the other way round. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that if it wasn't for the IPL, I reckon Warne would have made this ashes his last or would have at least strongly considered it.

Looks like I'm gonna have to work harder on you than I thought Q...your case is worse than I expected.

I recommend a weeks rest high up in the mountains as you will no doubt begin to experience IPL withdrawal symptoms over the next week or so.

Report back to me after this and I will give you the next course of action.

Q said...

Stani, it will have to be much harder than that.. a weeks rest in the mountains will do no good, cricket follows me everywhere :-)

I'm no supporter of 2 IPLs in a year, but the 1 that takes place is one event that will go down in history as the one that changed the landscape of cricket forever.

Again, its a matter of perception and point of view.

IPL or no IPL, Warne would have hung up his boots after the 07 Ashes either way. I don't see how the IPL played any part in hastening Warne's retirement.

In fact, when he announced his retirement, his participation in the IPL was not even on the horizon.

Moreover, it was last year's IPL that got the tongues wagging about Warne coming back for the Ashes.

I see no logic in your argument there. Wanna come up to the mountains with me?

Amy said...

Do you know who else lives in the mountains? Gunther.

Q said...

Maybe we can go get his opinion on this whole IPL shabang..

Amy said...

He loves it. More opportunity to jump down the throats of young Indian batsmen, if only a team wanted him.

Stani Army said...

I'm more of a bushes man Q. Just ask Amy

Mike who????

Enjoyed reading the comments of Stani Army and Q.

Stani....Would it be fair to say that you hate Lalit Modi way more than you hate IPL?

I think we all hate Lalit Modi. But I do give him credit for his organizational skills and ability to take hard decisions and stick with them. Also it seems most of the franchisees have made a lot of money and considering the kind of sponsorship deals they have plus the 1000s of advertisement we poor Indian viewers are torchered with, it seems the IPL is doing pretty well. The only thing that really upsets me is the Kolkata Knight Riders have again ended up as the highest earning franchise. Thats totally crazy. Thats the only team I want bankrupt.

Stani Army said...

That's a difficult one Rayden...it's his baby...it has his DNA.

You can't change DNA

Yes, there's lots to admire about Lalit the businessman but this this gentlemans game does not need his single minded selfishness. He needs to spread the love instead of causing division.

Is SRK of the Knight riders still jumping around like a caged animal?

Rayden said...

Stani....I agree with the singleminded selfishness of Mr. Modi. No body in their right mind could argue against that.

Also yeah unfortunately SRK is jumping around like all kinds of animals, dancing in weddings, blowing flying kisses to god knows whom and we have to keep seeing all this. Thats the reason I want KKR to be bankrupt - have nothing against their players.

Q said...

Nothing can stop SRK from jumping around...

Stani Army said...

Not even bankruptcy Q?

Chopping off his legs may do the trick. We need Hughes' machete.

I agree with you Rayden. I wished he had kept the idea more pure. Even though it has less "stars", I'd watch the ICL over the IPL anytime. As for SRK; do you think he watches himself (on tv, not in the mirror - he definitely does that). Surely, any sane human would stop that behaviour having seen it right?

What's wrong Ames? A little quiet on the subject? Can't handle lover boy Lalit being critisised?

Q said...

Don't think SRK will see bankruptcy in this lifetime.

Believe it or not, word is KKR still made a profit. There's a reason why they had the highest brand value in a recent report.

Won't be surprised if he sells a stake at huge premium before next season.

Rayden said...

Q - KKR didnt just make money but they once again made the most money in IPL 2. The good thing though is this year all 8 teams made a profit. Last year it was only KKR and Jaipur.

In fact it seems many of the franchisees are even considering listing on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Also I heard today Deccan Chronicle has put up their team DC for sale. Lets see what kind of bids they get from potential owners. Also SRK is all set for a part-sale of KKR and will fetch millions.

btw Stani.......I used to watch ICL. It had some pretty decent moments actually. The hyderabad vs Lahore rivalry was getting really interesting. The only thing I hated about it was Tony Grieg and Kiran More. Unfortunately IPL + the recent terrorist attacks have finished of ICL completely.

Q said...

Rayden: I heard abt the BSE listing claim.. MI and CSK are already there through their owners stocks.. but it'll be interesting to see when the other get there.

Stani: would have never though of u to be a fellow stani ;-) .. now I understand your liking for the ICL!

Just hopped over to ur site.. good work man.

Stani Army said...

Ooo Rayden, I cannot agree more with you about Greig. What a hole-in-the-arse-of-a-man. He commentates with such dismissiveness in regards to the Badshahs....not to mention the fact that he kept calling them Pakistan (is). Prat

Yes Q! We're bloody everywhere us, visa or no visa. If there is a country, you will find a Pakistani in it. Thanks man.

Amy said...

Don't you dare take the piss out of Lalit, he and I are best mates. Better than best mates, you could say bed mates.

Happy? I just torched my integrity there, Stani, for a person who watched the ICL. I'm disgusted.

Stani Army said...

Why the hell did you go and say that for? Bed mates? I can't get the image out of my head now Ames.

There's taking the piss out of oneself for a laugh but this was just disgusting.

Is that the same bed that we...actually, don't tell me. Just delete it please, please just delete it.

Amy said...

No. How about you delete those comments about watching the ICL and then we'll talk.

Stani Army said...

It was a typo. The C was meant to be a P...IPL. I must of told you how much I love the IPL no?

(What's your record for most comments on a post Ames? Don't know if you noticed but I'm trying to break it here. You think I'll get into the Guiness book of records? Don't worry though, I won't forget you when I do. I'll tell 'em that it would not have been possible without you)

Amy said...

Don't bother, it's 80+

So much for breaking the record, Stani.

Stani Army said...

O really? There's me thinking you'd be there on the side cheering me on with a bottle of water in you hand but no!

Never mind.

I'll carry on regardless. May just have to start some nasty rumours about you and Graeme Smith. That should get people coming back.

I won't let all my hard work go to waste Ames. May be I'll start cheating by

Stani Army said...

Amyyyyy? Amy Amy Amy? Don't be like that.

What's gonna get you more publicity anyway, a nasty rumour or me in the Guiness book of records saying "I just like to thank Amy S. Without her, this record would not have been possible"

Come on! We can get a century partnership...together!

Stani Army said...

That was me by the way.

Amy said...

No it wasn't. Don't lie.

I do believe I'm commenting when I said I wouldn't. I'm not going to after this. Let's see you get to 80 then. Go enlist Q to talk ICL with you, traitor.

Stani Army said...

You can't help it can you. Like a fat boy with a small dinner plate you just keep coming back for more.

And Anonymous was me. I did it so I could come back to add another comment explaining that it was me. Clever hey? Just another one for the total. It's a pity you won't be around when I bring up my century.

Come on Ames!!! I know you said you're not coming back but I'll ignore that. Honestly, there's no shame in it. People change opinions all the time. I used to hate Australians but then I discovered you. See?

Champions League final today Ames. Football (soccer), the beautiful game. Much better than cricket hey?

Look everyone, I've managed to prevent Amy from commenting on her own blog? Amazing? Hahahaha

You really wanna kill me now don't ya?

Amy said...

Man, you're a little bitch.

I commented. Don't think you'll be getting to 80 anytime soon, though. It's lovely you wrote soccer in brackets for me. I appreciate your understanding of the cultural divide and applaud you for your efforts. A true friend is what you are.

I helped Manchester lose, though. I figured you'd be watching so I distracted them with strobe lights while they were playing. Clever tactic, really.

Stani Army said...

I knew it was because of you. Strobe lights...genius! Just don't do anything like that to my beloved West Ham united (our captain's an Aussie; Lucas Neil)

As for the cultural thing, I only do it because I know you'll appreciate it. You may have to start doing similarly for me in your posts....all that bagga wagga stuff that you call people, it goes right over my head, past the keeper and to the boundary for byes.

Plus, the thing you guys call football is more like a free-for-all.

I'm setting my sights on more than just 80 big girl.

Stani Army said...

Nudges one into the off side to take a quick single. Takes his score to 57 not out.

Stani Army said...

He goes for another single but wait! He's pulled up!

Calls for a runner. I'm no expert in sign language but I think he's calling for Arny S. Arnold Schwarzenegger? He doesn't play cricket!

Nope, my apologies, it's Amy S not Arny.

There's a pause in play to see if Amy responds. Score moves on to 58

Stani Army said...

Wait a minute. It's not Amy S who's coming out...it looks like Inzamam although it's difficult to tell them apart. Yes it's Inzi on as runner for Stani.

Ouch, Inzi's gone down before he's reached the crease. This could be a disaster. He's calling for a runner. This is a world first shadys and mentalmen; the runner is calling for a runner!

This could have all been avoided if Amy had just responded.

Score moves on to 59
